School Campus Refurbishment: Sevenoaks Annexe

The Sevenoaks Annexe is a new campus run by Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys. The Annexe opened in September 2021 and has 90 Year 7 places, providing the same rich educational experience as at the main campus in Tunbridge Wells.

Objective

Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys (TWGSB) had been working on a site expansion on both the Tunbridge Wells Campus and its new Annexe in Sevenoaks. The phase 1 extension in Tunbridge Wells aimed to provide a better and bigger environment for local young people. After the successful completion of phase 1 of their extension, Business Manager, Katie Ross and Site Manager, Alistair Mitchell, needed to find a reliable furniture supplier and a Project Manager who would support them in completing the Sevenoaks Annexe.

The four-storey Sevenoaks campus consisted of 32 rooms, which all needed furnishing for the 90 new pupils and staff it would accommodate.

Solution

Paper Plus’s Project Manager, James, had supported Katie and Alistair through the TWGSB phase 1 extension in Tunbridge Wells, refurbishing the two-storey teaching centre and building a good rapport with the onsite project team. TWGSB looked at a few suppliers, however, James and his division were able to put forward a proposal for the Sevenoaks Annexe that took care of not only the furnishings but the day-to-day management of deliveries, installations and removal of packaging. The project was awarded to Paper Plus due to the strong working relationship that had developed through previous projects and a solid proposal, covering all bases.

James and his team at Paper Plus sourced and installed a large number of both standard and bespoke furniture items, including a table made for children that blended well into the rest of the design. It could be used as a standard table but had the ability to be moved up or down to fit a child who required wheelchair access.

Results

With the support from Paper Plus, Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys was able to launch phase 1 of the Sevenoaks campus in September, welcoming three classes of year 7 students. Pupil numbers will continue to grow until they reach a roll of 450 in 2025. Paper Plus looks forward to continuing its work in supporting both Katie and Alistair
through phase 2 of both site expansions.
