Mock Exams – Organisation and Revision Tips!
As the Autumn term continues, thoughts start to turn to mock exams and preparing students for what lies ahead. Mocks are an important part of the school calendar, as they help pupils to understand what exams are like, as well as show them what areas they need to work on in each subject. For schools, it is a chance to run exam sessions and work out the organisation, with plenty of time to make changes and purchase resources before exam season comes around in the summer. Here are some ideas and resources to help with the organisation of your school and students for mock exams, as well as some revision tips to help with the weeks ahead!
Sort your seating!
Exams require a lot of sitting down and focusing for long stretches of time; in order for students to be as successful as they can, they need comfortable seats and the right size desks so they can work quickly and efficiently. Paper Plus has a range of exam desks that can be folded in half and stacked on top of each other, making the setting up of exam halls quick and efficient. Schools can purchase trolleys for stacking, as well as lightweight chairs that help to keep students focused on the task in hand.

Streamline your studying
Schools can help their students to prepare for exams in many ways, but they will also need to continue their revision at home, even if the distractions of the TV and a stocked fridge can get in the way! Paper Plus has a whole host of resources to help students keep on track and prepare for their upcoming mock exams:
– Highlighters are bright and visual and help to show the key parts of a text. They are great for when you are skimming information and just want the key messages.
– Sticky notes are an excellent way to keep track of pages you have read in a textbook and want to return to at a later point, or to write key words on to jog your memory.

– Revision cards are similar to sticky notes, but allow you to write more on them, summarising a topic or idea.

– Ring binders are a handy way to store all your notes in one place, plus they are big and can hold a lot of paper at one time! https://paperplusuk.com/product/classroom-supplies/stationery/4-ring-presentation-ring-binders-40mm-blue/
Revision tips
Create cue cards to help break down topics – it can be daunting revising a whole subject in a small amount of time. The easiest way to face a problem is by breaking it down into manageable chunks and this also works with revision! Cue cards are a great way to focus on the key topics in a subject. Putting them together helps you to remember an idea…
Make a revision timetable – before you start revising, you need a plan. Think about the areas where you have the least confidence and plan those in first – the subjects you feel good about can come later on. Create a timetable that is realistic and that you can stick to – small, manageable chunks of time, followed by clear breaks. Speaking of which…
Make sure you have breaks – rest breaks are just as important as revising, as they help to clear your head and keep you focused for the important stuff. Make sure you plan in activities that you enjoy, to motivate you during your revision time. It could be that you have a day trip planned at the end of the week as a reward for all your hard work, or take the evenings off to see friends and get out of the house.
Focus on key words and using mnemonics – harnessing your memory is really important, so you are utilising it as much as possible. There are many techniques you can use, one of which is mnemonics. This is when you associate a concept or idea with an image or picture to help visualise and recall it in your memory. This often works well with learning how to spell tricky words that don’t follow the usual pattern.
